LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER ~ 2013

The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER program is an 11 month intensive and comprehensive study of the political, civic, economic and social dynamics in action within Dorchester County. Upon completion of this program the participant will be well-positioned to educate their peers, coworkers and potential residents about Dorchester County. The 25 member class participate in unique opportunities in team building exercises, professional network development and training and leadership development facilitated by award-winning corporate trainers. These individuals begin the year as strangers and end the year having formed a life-long network of friends and colleagues. Most importantly, these individuals leave LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER with a commitment to assume their responsibility as “community leaders.” This program is ideal for business and industry professionals who are emerging and/or existing leaders in the public; non-profit; governmental sectors, as well as other professions. MISSON
LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER emphasizes diversity and develops proactive, forward-thinking leaders that can identify and offer unique solutions to specific community issues. The primary objective is to increase awareness, knowledge, and understanding of the region’s economy and community networks while developing the future community and political leaders of Dorchester County. The 2013 curriculum is presented by local, county and regional community leaders.

LEADERSHIP SCHEDULE
LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER~2013 begins with an overnight retreat in January, followed by monthly day-long sessions and a graduation program in November. These sessions are held at a variety of locations throughout the region, with each location chosen for its relevance to the topic of the day. Previous LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER locations have included a port tour, historic sites in Upper Dorchester County, manufacturing facilities, Summerville Medical Center and other interesting venues. The Town of Summerville and Dorchester County will also participate in hosting components of LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER~2013.

CURRICULUM AND PRESENTERS
The program offers a balanced combination of a retreat, in-depth issue seminars, leadership development and experiential learning with a community action project covering the first 9 months. Each month focuses on a different topic selected for its direct impact to the quality of life and economic prosperity in Dorchester County. In all, over fifty presentations and programs are planned with a wide array of presenters that include a variety of backgrounds, occupations, and professions. They are selected on the basis of their performance in their chosen field, commitment to the community, and their excellent communication skills and experience. LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER Alumni are also an integral part of the program.

LIMITED ENROLLMENT
In order to maintain the highest standards of learning LEADERSHIP DORCHESTER~2013 has limited enrollment. Applicants are asked to submit an application, resume, and references to ensure that they will obtain the maximum benefit from their participation in the program. To ensure a successful program, total participation of each individual is necessary. Applications will be accepted until August 31st 2013.
