As the Lowcountry Graduate Center (LGC) completes its transition into the era of online instruction, it welcomes an accomplished manager, educator and communicator as its new director.
Alan Kleinfeld joins the LGC upon the retirement of Dr. Nancy Muller, who has provided leadership for the organization for the last eight years. She was a champion for workforce pipeline development and assisted in the transition of the LGC from a centralized model of in-person graduate level instruction for adult learners in North Charleston to offerings that are predominantly online to provide greater accessibility of course content across a broader geographic region of the Lowcountry.
The Lowcountry Graduate Center is a state-funded organization dedicated to promoting graduate level education and professional development at the College of Charleston, The Citadel and the Medical University of South Carolina to augment the talent of the region’s workforce, contributing to the economic vitality and wellness of the community. Its goal is to enable working professionals to grow their careers right here in the greater Charleston area.
An experienced professional with a broad skill set encompassing decades of work in a wide variety of fields, Kleinfeld joins the LGC with a record of success as a business owner, published author, project manager and seasoned educator and trainer. His accomplishments include organizational development, relationship development and communications planning and implementation. Graduating from The University of New Mexico with a B.A. in Professional Writing, Kleinfeld subsequently earned his Master’s degree of Tourism Administration (MTA) from the School of Business at George Washington University. He assumes his new LGC responsibilities effective January 1, 2022, upon the retirement of Muller from both her positions serving as director of the LGC and visiting associate professor of public health at the College of Charleston.
Recognizing that an educated populace is key to workforce development, economic growth and community vitality, the LGC collaborates with business development teams both locally and around the state – as well as leading area employers – to connect member institutions with employers that rely on graduates of their programs. The LGC also works to identify workforce needs so that programs can be developed to address those gaps in workforce talent.
