SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (Thursday, April 6, 2023) – An official groundbreaking ceremony was held by the Town of Summerville, Michael Baker International, Blythe Development Co, and Dorchester County to mark the beginning of the North Maple Street Project, a major infrastructure improvement initiative aimed at improving community safety, mobility, and connectivity.
During the Chamber's Monthly Power Hour in May, the community is invited to hear an update on the Project. Please join us as we hear from Russ Cornette, Director of Public Works and Town Engineer, for the Town of Summerville.
The project includes:
• Widening Maple Street from two to four lanes just east of Shamrock Drive to W. Richardson Ave.
• Intersection improvements at US-78 adding turn lanes on all approaches.
• Installation of a traffic signal at West Richardson Avenue.
• A new alignment from W. Richardson to Parsons Road where it will transition from three lanes to two lanes at the Parsons Rd. connection.
"We are excited to start the construction of the North Maple Street Project, which reflects our commitment to building a more connected and sustainable community," said Mayor Waring. "This project will have a significant positive impact on the quality of life for our residents and contribute to the long-term growth of our town."
Planning for the $20,948,175 Maple Street Extension Project began in 2015.
