Home Telecom Passes $500,000 Charitable Giving Milestone Through Home Community Fund

Supporting communities in every possible way has always been one of Home Telecom’s core values.

MONCKS CORNER — Home Telecom has awarded a total of $60,000 from their 2023 Home Community Fund to 19 local nonprofit organizations across the Tri-County area. With this year’s grant cycle, Home Telecom has passed the half-million-dollar milestone in charitable giving through the Home Community Fund! The award amount per recipient ranges from $250 to $4,000.

Home Telecom was overwhelmed with applicants this year representing a wide range of locally based charitable programs related to health and disabilities; education, literacy, and personal growth; children and families in crisis; church charities; food insecurity; veterans; and animal rescue.

With the help of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina, Home Telecom created the Home Community Fund in 2002 to support nonprofit organizations serving Berkeley County and the surrounding communities. CCF utilizes industry partnerships to bring together leadership, advocacy, and engagement that will bring about positive changes in the region.

In 2021, Home Telecom was proud to expand its support to nonprofit organizations through the Home Community Fund which also makes an impact in Charleston and Dorchester counties as well.

Since 2005, Home Telecom has awarded more than $527,000 to local nonprofit organizations through the Home Community Fund.

“This milestone was special because it was achieved thanks to both corporate investment and employee commitment to drive the grantmaking decisions, said Coastal Community Foundation President and CEO Darrin Goss. “We are proud to see businesses like Home Telecom dedicated to making the greatest charitable impact on our community.”

Home Telecom President and CEO Will Helmly said supporting communities in every possible way has always been one of Home Telecom’s core values and priorities dating back to the company’s beginning in 1904.

“Home Telecom has continuously grown the fund to try and meet all the needs of our communities and applicants, but every year, it becomes more difficult to select the final recipients,” he said. “Every applicant is worthy of support, and we want nothing more than to award funding to all of them.

Helmly continued, “While we try to fill that gap with other grants like the Community Grant Program through our membership with the National Telephone Cooperative Association (NTCA), our involvement in schools and local sports programs, and through employee volunteer efforts, our hope is that this fund will continue to grow and meet even more of the communities’ needs.”

The grueling process of selecting the final recipients is made by a Home Community Fund advisory committee made up of Home Telecom employees. Committee members take the time to research all the organizations that submit applications before deliberating and making their final selections.

The application portal for the 2024 Home Community Fund opens on April 1, 2024. All requests must be submitted by June 1. Final awards will be announced in October 2024.
